What is a more enjoyable challenge than performing the Guang Ping Yang Style Taiji Form? Performing the Guang Ping Yang Style Form left-handed set, that is! Learning the form on the reverse side of your body feels like you are learning a completely new set. Performing this mirrored version is a new form of stimulation that works to balance both sides of the brain – an experience that comes with a distinct titillating feeling.

In Chinese medicine, the right yin side of the brain – associated with logical thinking and characterized by a quiet, patient, and soft-spoken nature – is balanced by its left yang counterpart which is associated with creative thinking and characterized by loud, impulsive, aggressive and boastful behavior. Activating both sides through Taiji empowers these yin-yang qualities to work in tandem to support wholeness and integration of your entire being.

Adding the left-handed set to your training routine expands your intuition, strengthens problem solving skills and sharpens mental capacity. It increases flexibility of your joints and endows you with a greater sense of balance. Moreover, it expands your awareness to the opposite side of your body – resulting in greater integration of the physical (yin) and energetic (yang) aspects of your being.

Brain balancing through Taiji also integrates the left and right hemispheres of your brain with the left and right sides of your body. This increases connections forged between the right yin side of brain/left yin side of the body and the left yang side of brain/right yang side of the body thereby improving coordination.

Learning and practicing the set on your left side also comes with newfound awareness about how you have been practicing your right-handed set. This enables you to break down the moves in a fresh new way. The opportunity for self-correction results in greater cultivation of internal power and is a pivotal step toward Taiji mastery.
