The practice of Taiji greatly impacts the state of the emotional body. Chinese medicine is a mind-body philosophy that acknowledges the interconnectedness of one’s emotional state and the physical body. Learn about the Seven Emotions (joy, worry, grief, sadness, fear, fright, anger) and how your emotional state may be impacting your qi flow and vital organ systems.

For instance, pent-up anger decreases energetic flow and causes stagnation of qi within the liver meridian, resulting in symptoms such as breathing difficulty, distending chest pain, anxiety and depression. Practice the “Energetic Cleansing Exercise” to help release pent up or toxic emotions from your energetic body to support your energetic and physical wellbeing.

The Seven Emotions are also related to the Five Elements. Learn how specific Guang Ping movement sequences nourish each element and its associated emotion.

Always keep in mind that emotional health is manifested through continually feeling, connecting with and honoring your feelings. The practice of Taiji strengthens your ability to feel and express your emotions thereby lessening the likelihood of stagnation. The repetitive movements establish energetic patterns that mend and reconnect your mind, body, spirit, psyche and emotions for optimal internal flow and vibrant wellbeing.

When your emotional life is in harmony, the lung generates feelings of freedom, the liver generates happiness, the spleen generates concentration, the kidney generates power, and the heart generates love.
