Center of Power

Course Overview

As a 6th generation lineage holder of the Guang Ping Yang Style Taiji Form, I have long desired to document my knowledge and insight for future generations of Taiji seekers. After eight years of researching, writing and editing, I am thrilled to release my Center of Power course designed for the beginner and seasoned practitioner alike ready to explore a novel inspiring and all-encompassing approach.

The Center of Power curriculum offers an educational framework that allows a participant to study at their own pace. It encompasses a vast array of philosophical, theoretical and practice principles – a toolbox to nourish body, mind and spirit. Experiential exercises are designed to enhance physical and energetic development. Students also learn how energy moves through the body and about the importance of proper positioning to keep qi (vital energy) flowing freely throughout. This comprehensive course provides a Taiji practitioner with all they need to become adept at this ancient exercise art.

The educational portion of the program contains scientific research, the Daoist roots of Taiji, and precepts from the Taiji Classics and Chinese medicine theory and practice. The interplay of these paradigms provides an integrated approach and the basic foundation for your Taiji discovery.

The major exercise portion of the course is complete with 130+ videos and written instructions for the seven prep workouts and Taiji form. Gradual learning of the form is essential as it builds confidence, composure and stability. With time and practice, you will develop a solid exercise regimen – one that harmonizes the physical and energetic aspects of your being.

The Taiji experience empowers you to bring positive change into your life.

You now have a guidebook at your fingertips to bring this to fruition –

right here, right now.
The philosophy, theory and practice perspectives presented throughout the Center of Power curriculum are derived from the Tai Chi Classics — a compendium of core writings and teachings passed down through the centuries. Other teachings come from Chinese Medicine, Chinese Medical Qigong and the Ancient Daoist Internal Arts.

Taiji (Tai Chi) is also referred to as Taijiquan (Tai Chi Chuan) which directly translates to "grand ultimate boxing."

"All too often, T’ai Chi becomes a mechanical routine, and the student ignores the important mental aspects of the discipline completely...Because the true T’ai Chi practitioner works by exercising the mind and body together, not paying attention to what you are doing means that you won’t be in the state of T’ai Chi. You will only be performing a T’ai Chi-like exercise, which cannot be considered true T’ai Chi practice"

Student Stories

"After seven years of working with Shoshanna, she continues to inspire and motivate me to further develop mind/body movement through Taiji. The movements are executed in a specific manner involving balance and alignment, although the routine flows as creatively as in the freedom of dance. Mindful body movement has provided a toolkit to manage stress and has provided much exercise fun and joy when practiced alone or in a group!"

-Becky C.

"Taiji is the most powerful gift you or someone else can ever give you – physical conditioning, a strengthening of emotional connection to yourself and nature, and the energetic pathways to intentionally shape your entire life’s curriculum. Our Guang Ping Yang Taiji Form has so much nuance, beauty, and depth in each and every movement, that once you complete learning the set, it will continue to teach you something new about yourself and the world every time you practice."

-Jared K.

"Taiji has been an instrumental part of recovering and maintaining my wellness since becoming ill with multiple autoimmune conditions and chronic pain at a very young age. In combination with other therapies, its promise of “self-health care” has felt profoundly re-empowering when so much of the experience of chronic illness infringes on that autonomy. Taiji has supported me in making peace with the knowledge that my healing is non-linear and a lifelong discipline, providing an accessible tool to feel safely present in my body nonetheless, clear of mind, and abundant in spirit."

-Kelly R.

"When the gong sounds to begin a new Taiji session, the rest of the world goes away. My focus is on Shifu Shoshanna’s calming & clear instructions and on my lower dantian breathing. As we move through warmups, I embrace their importance...getting mind & body ready for the rigor of the meditative movement about to commence. Each class builds upon what was previously learned and provides repetition and continual feedback. Taiji strengthens my stamina, agility, muscles, balance, AND I feel more connected to the sky above and the earth below. I just love it!"

-Penni S.

"In a very short time, the practice of Taiji has become a very important part of my life. Having practiced yoga for 20 years, I looked forward to the benefits to mind, body and spirit a practice such as Taiji can provide. And although I quickly realized the practice will take years of hard work in order to attain a level of proficiency, it has already provided me a profound sense of peace and hope for the future. I am so grateful to have discovered Shoshanna as a teacher. Her patience, generosity with and commitment to her students is in large part responsible for my belief that through dedication to the practice great benefits will come."

-Alitia F.

"I worked in law enforcement for forty years and Taiji classes with Shoshanna have been life enhancing. As an officer, I was trained in the letter and spirit of the law. These strategies were complimented by the structure and flow of Taiji principles. Also, being in class with others offers a sense of team and support. I will have friends from this experience that will last a lifetime. After breast cancer surgery, Taiji assisted in my recovery. The flow of movements is gentle. Classes helped me return to a peaceful sense of body, mind and spirit. I am cancer free for over three years. Shoshanna is a patient and knowledgeable Taiji teacher who reminds me to embrace being a beginner, as master of the “class of life” I am thankful to be in attendance."
